Presentation

This digital critical edition of the French Correspondence of the French Reformer John Calvin offers a different perspective on Calvin, especially for the general French and Spanish-speaking public. It offers for the first time a modernized French version and a translation into Spanish of the reformer's French correspondence. The aim is to present John Calvin, the man, through his correspondence, without filters, letting him express himself in his own words. The letters presented here are, mainly, the letters collected in Jules Bonnet's edition published in 1854 according to the original manuscripts found for the most part at the Library of Geneva.

For each letter, you will find on the same page the original manuscript or the oldest known copy, the edition of Jules Bonnet published in 1854, a version in modern French and an unpublished translation in Spanish. The interface will allow you to view and compare the different versions. For the English version, you will be able to consult the edition of these letters as they were produced by Project Gutenberg (2014)

For the time being, the website offers a selection of 14 letters from Calvin.
